Life on the Farm

Time has flown by significantly fast the past two months. I only have one month left on the farm before heading off to school. I have lived on the farm for eighteen years, but this was my first ever summer that I was picking flowers.

Over the course of two months, I have learned many things. The newest thing I learned was that all hydrangeas go from their fresh stage to antique stage. My co-worker and I spend our days picking the flowers and then sitting under the shade of the trees picking the bad petals off the hydrangeas leaving only the antique petals.

Before this season we were able to just cut and bunch… we have learned some patience in this new hydrangea season :)) Many plants have also stopped producing for the summer, such as the coffee bean, viburnum, and montbretia. Every week looks a little different on the farm, and it keeps us busy.
