Oregon Coastal Flowers is a leading grower and supplier of Double Red Quince — thorn-free, highly floriferous, and prized for its rich red color. Early-season forcing can also produce lighter antique and blush tones. Double Quince offers heavy, double-petaled blooms with dependable opening when staged and handled correctly.

Availability & color notes
Double Quince is most in demand during the Chinese New Year season and into early spring. Our Double Red Quince is the signature color; early-season forcing can produce lighter antique, blush, and white tones depending on variety and staging.
- Peak: Late January – March (CNY & early spring).
- Colors: Deep Double Red (signature), antique blush & white possible with early forcing.
- Growth notes: thorn-free selections with increased floriferousness (more flowers per stem).
Staging & conditioning
Double Quince is handled and staged slightly more conservatively than single quince to protect double petals. Typical warm-room finishing durations (65–75°F):
| Ship stage | Warm-room days to open | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Swollen bud (protected) | 5–10 days | Double petal forms open more slowly; give generous spacing and humidity. |
| Very tight bud (to protect petals) | 6–12 days | Plan for slower opening and daily checks; use gentle warm-up sequences to avoid shock. |
Receiving checklist: Unpack upright → recut stems 1–2" under water → hydrate with a commercial preservative → space stems generously (double forms need room) → move to warm-room finishing as scheduled.
Packing & shipping
To protect delicate double petals, we pack Double Quince into large plastic shipping bags with moist paper wrapped at the bag ends to maintain localized humidity during transit. Bags ship directly (not boxed) and are palletized or consolidated for freight. We confirm cube for accurate freight quotes.
- Gentle packing: extra padding and careful orientation in bags to reduce abrasion.
- Carrier guidance: FedEx daily, Air Cargo (Tues & Fri), Trucking (Fridays) — coordinate specialized pallets for heavy double loads.
- Temperature: avoid freezing; in hot weather consider insulated liners and faster transit.
Grooming & troubleshooting
Because double petals are more delicate, a short groom (1–3 minutes per affected bunch) to remove a small percentage of damaged buds is normal and helps present the remainder of the order professionally.
- Petal bruising: usually from movement — re-space stems, rehydrate, and groom bruised blooms.
- Slow opening: ensure stems are recut and placed in warm-room at recommended temps; double forms will often require slightly longer finish times.
- Discoloration: can be from cold damage or over-ripeness — report widespread issues to sales.
