Ordering & Packing

Pack Sizes & Conversion

We pack hydrangeas by stems and by wholesale boxes. The table below shows the typical conversion between stems, bunches, and box sizes using our standard bunch size of 5 stems per bunch.

Conversion (standard)
Pack SizeStemsStems per BunchBunches per Box
¼ Box 40 stems 5 stems 8 bunches
½ Box 80 stems 5 stems 16 bunches
Full Box 160 stems 5 stems 32 bunches

Note: These conversions are our standard packing practice (5 stems per bunch). Actual bunch counts and stems per box can vary seasonally based on head size and variety — during peak bloom some large-headed varieties may be packed with fewer stems per bunch. For current pack details and minimums, see the weekly availability update.

Conditioning & Care (Quick Guide)

These are our standard conditioning steps and handling tips for hydrangeas to maximize vase life and performance on arrival.

  • Harvest & hydrate: We cut and immediately hydrate stems; store cool until packing.
  • Conditioning: Recut stems under water on receipt and place in fresh, cool water with floral preservative where possible.
  • Temperature: Keep hydrangeas cool (34–40°F / 1–4°C) for best vase life. Avoid heat during transport and storage.
  • Vase life: Typically 7–14 days when conditioned properly; larger heads may need more water and support.
  • Handling heads: Support heads when moving; avoid twisting stems. For long stems, open space in the bucket so heads are not crushed.

Note: Specific conditioning for special varieties (e.g., paniculata vs. mophead) can be provided per-order — contact sales for variety-specific instructions.
